Vol. 23 No. 16

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. Oral Answers. - CLONDULANE (FERMOY) FLOUR MILLS.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that the Clondulane Flour Mills (Fermoy, County Cork) are practically closed down owing to the dumping of foreign flour, and what steps, if any, he intends taking to deal with the grave problem of unemployment in this district, and to save this industry from extinction.

I am aware that the Clondulane Flour Mills, Fermoy, are not at present manufacturing flour. In the report of the Tariff Commission on the application of the Irish Flour Millers' Association for the imposition of a Customs duty on flour, it is stated in Paragraph 26 that it was for the applicants to substantiate their allegations of dumping, and that they had failed to do so. The alternative suggestions for assisting the industry made by one member of the Commission are under consideration.
