Vol. 23 No. 16

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. Oral Answers. - COMPENSATION CLAIMS OF DISMISSED RAILWAY EMPLOYEES.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that a large number of dismissed railway employees under the Railways Acts, 1924-26, are awaiting adjudication of their cases; and whether he will state when it is his intention to request the Chief Justice to expedite the appointment of an arbitrator to hear and decide those claims for compensation.

The existing arbitrator has not vacated his appointment under the Third Schedule of the Railways Act, 1924, and, in the event of his doing so, representations as to the appointment of his successor should be made by the interested parties, not to me, but to the Chief Justice.

Is it not possible to secure the services of some arbitrator who would guarantee to stay in the job long enough to finish all the cases put before him?

The present arbitrator is on the job.
