Vol. 24 No. 11

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - PRIVY COUNCIL AND ARTICLE X.

asked the Minister for Finance whether the extra legal expenses involved in assisting to secure that the relevant considerations are fully placed before the Judicial Committee of the British Privy Council in the fresh examination of Article X. of the Treaty, necessitated by admittedly incorrect opinion already expressed by that body on the matter will have to be met by the Saorstát Government.

The reply to the Deputy's question is in the negative.

Does the Minister think that it is fair or just that our unfortunate friends in Great Britain, not having got the privilege which the "Irish Times" describes as "the right inherent in every British subject," will have to pay when this distinguished body makes a fool of itself?

The Minister cannot be asked for an expression of opinion on that.

As it would be discourteous for us to discuss this whole matter while it is sub judice so far as the British Government is concerned, will the Minister or the President state whether this House will have an opportunity of discussing the fantastic situation that has arisen as a result of the failure of this Committee?

Put down another question.

The Deputy's question merely concerns a matter of expense.
