Vol. 25 No. 5

(CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS). (ORAL ANSWERS). - UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE BENEFIT.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he will state the reasons for refusal to pay further unemployment insurance benefit to Laurence May, West End, Monasterevan, Co. Kildare, Kildare Branch Office (2944).

The number of contributions paid for Laurence May of West End, Monasterevan, County Kildare, is 265. Against these he has received unemployment benefit for 265 days on claims made on the 10th May, 1926; 14th April, 1927, and 14th April, 1928. Having, therefore, exhausted his contributions, he will not be entitled to receive any further benefit until further contributions have been paid for him.

In view of the fact that the Parliamentary Secretary has stated that this man had 265 stamps on his card, and that under the Act an unemployed man or woman is entitled to one week's benefit for every six stamps on the card, does it not follow that he would be entitled to more benefit?

No. Apparently the Deputy misunderstands the answer. I think when he reads it he will see that it is correct.
