Vol. 28 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Claim Against Army.

asked the Minister for Defence if he has received an application from ex-Sergeant M. J. Dooley (No. 49759, Army Corps of Engineers) for payment of £11 additional pay, due to him for service rendered as Registry Clerk from 12th December, 1927, to 22nd September, 1928; whether he is aware that ex-Sergeant Dooley was recommended for additional pay on two occasions by his Commanding Officer, and that copies of these recommendations are filed at the Engineers' Offices, Curragh Camp, and Griffith Barracks; if it is intended to have payment of the amount claimed made in this case; and, if not, whether he will state the reasons for the refusal.

I have received Mr. Dooley's application. I am aware that a recommendation was made to the officer commanding Army Corps of Engineers that Mr. Dooley should be paid additional pay at a rate in excess of that of which he was already in receipt. It is not intended to pay the amount claimed, as the officer commanding was not personally satisfied that Mr. Dooley was sufficiently proficient in his duties to warrant the issue of additional pay at the higher rate.
