Vol. 28 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Valentine Blake Estate (Co. Mayo).

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will state when the Land Commission will deal with the lands known as the Valentine Blake estate, the Neale district, Co. Mayo; whether he will state if the Land Commission intend to take any immediate steps to relieve the very acute congestion that exists in this area.

The estate referred to comprises a holding of 285a. 2r. 36p., situate in the townlands of Illanmore and Knocknafisha, partly in the occupation of the owner and partly in the occupation of 18 sub-tenants. The estate is being dealt with under the Land Act, 1923, and the question of the retention of the portion of the lands in the owner's exclusive occupation will be considered by the Land Commission in due course.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary state definitely whether the Land Commission propose to take over the lands? Have not the lands been offered by the owner to the Land Commission for some time?

The owner has objected, and I cannot say when they will be taken over.
