Vol. 29 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pension Claims of Irish Volunteers.

Seán O Guilidhe

asked the Minister for Defence whether he will state (a) the number of claims for pensions in respect of disease or disability received from persons certified to have been members of the Irish Volunteers or of the Irish Citizen Army and who did not serve in the National Army; (b) the number of such claims already dealt with; and (c) the number of claims disallowed in cases in which the disability was not less than the minimum degree of disablement, and whether these cases will be reconsidered.

The compilation of the information asked for would necessitate an expenditure of time and labour that would not appear to be justified by the result.

Would it not be possible in the circumstances to give these cases a more sympathetic hearing?

If the Deputy has any individual cases he might give me any information he has about them.
