Vol. 31 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grade “B” Post Office Assistants.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether, in view of the hardships imposed upon Post Office Assistants, Grade "B," who are not at their maximum, on allocation to the Post Office Assistant Grade "A" class, he will reconsider the question of granting an immediate increment to such officers on allocation to the Grade "A" class as some compensation for the higher work which they perform on their promotion.

This matter has again been carefully examined and it is considered that Grade "B" Assistants do not suffer any hardship on promotion to the "A" Grade. On the contrary, they are placed on a scale of pay which carries a maximum of from 7/-to 9/- plus bonus greater than the maximum of the "B" Grade. It is regretted, therefore, that the request that officers not at their maximum should receive a special increment on promotion cannot be acceded to.
