Vol. 32 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cabra Housing Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state (a) how much money was allocated by his Department for the preparation of the site for the erection of 641 houses in the Cabra district; (b) why no tenders have yet been invited for the erection of these houses; (c) whether he is aware that as a consequence of the completion of the preparatory work over 40 men engaged thereon were dismissed on the 25th October, 1929, and if in view of this and of the near approach of Christmas he will undertake to have the issue of invitations to tender for this work and the allocation of the further necessary grant expedited so as to give much-needed employment.

No money was allocated by the Department for the development of the site, but the usual grants are available in respect of the erection of the houses mentioned. I understand that the invitation for tenders is delayed because of the unfavourable position of the money market. The City Commissioners are most anxious to proceed with the houses at the earliest possible moment.
