Vol. 32 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Report on National Museum.

asked the Minister for Education whether, in view of the fact that the Board of Visitors of the National Museum have in their Annual Report for 1928-29, urged the early publication of the Report of the Departmental Committee of Enquiry into the working of that institution, he is prepared to publish this Report without delay.

The Report of the Board of Visitors of the National Museum for the year 1928-29 contains the following paragraph:—

In view of the re-arrangement of the Museum being carried out in accordance with the recommendations of the Government's Committee of Enquiry, it is considered that the early publication of the Report of that Committee would be of great service to the Board of Visitors and also to the staff.

As two members of the Board of Visitors acted on the Committee of Enquiry, it was assumed that the Board was aware of the Committee's recommendations, but I can arrange to have a complete copy of the Report supplied for the Board's information. Members of the staff who require information from the Report for the purposes of their official duties may have such information on application to the Department.

I am also prepared to have copies placed in the National Library, and in the Oireachtas Library, for the information of members who may be interested therein.

The question of printing and publication is primarily a matter of expense, and in present circumstances I doubt if this expense would be justified.
