Vol. 32 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Occupants of Dangerous Houses.

asked the Minister for Defence if he can make space available in any Dublin Military Barracks to accommodate temporarily fourteen families who are to be summarily evicted from structurally dangerous Dublin Corporation-owned tenement property in Hogan's Place Dublin City, South, and for which families the City Commissioners have no alternative accommodation.

Would the Minister give me any reason as to why the answer is in the negative? Could not the Minister say whether he will consider the matter?

It is a very serious situation. Are we to take it that these people are to be put out in the street?

No. The Deputy is very anxious to show his Christian charity in a way that is not expensive to himself but he does not seem to know much about this matter. I am told that as long as eighteen months ago these people were offered alternative accommodation and that a similar offer was made yesterday to all the families except one that is making its own arrangements.

That is not my information. I was on the 'phone to Commissioner Dr. Dwyer and I am told there is no accommodation available.

I am told otherwise.
