Vol. 34 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Weighing of Goods by Travelling Shops.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if the regulations which apply generally to shopkeepers and traders regarding standard weights and measures, apply also to travelling shops, and what steps are taken to see that proper weights and measures are given the public by the travelling shop which retails groceries and other commodities on the roadside or at the people's doors.

Except that bread and coal are required to be sold by weight only, there is at present no legislative provision governing the sale of commodities from vehicles used as travelling shops. A Weights and Measures Bill dealing with this, among other matters, is in preparation.

Will the Minister state when the Bill will be introduced?

I could not say.
