Vol. 37 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Kildare Lands for Relief of Congests.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will state what progress has been made by the Land Commission in acquiring for the relief of congestion the lands known as the Murphy Minors Estate, Rathangan, Co. Kildare, containing about 700 acres, and whether the lands will be available for allotment amongst the congest applicants (80 in number) in time for them to sow their crops this season.

The question of the acquisition by the Land Commission of the lands known as the Murphy Minors Estate at Rathangan is still under consideration, but at the present stage it is not anticipated that any of the lands will be acquired and available for distribution this season.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will instruct the Land Commission to acquire the lands held by H. de Courcey Wheeler in the townland of Robertstown West, electoral division of Robertstown, Co. Kildare, containing about 112 acres, 2 roods, 17 perches, in eight parcels, for division amongst the local congests, a list of whom (27 in number) has been furnished to the Department.

The Land Commission have had inquiry made regarding the lands of Robertstown West held by Major de Courcey Wheeler and have decided not to acquire them.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state what progress has been made by the Land Commission since the 27th November, 1929, in acquiring for the relief of congestion the lands containing 1,068 acres on the estate of Frances Archbold in the electoral division of Carrigeen, Co. Kildare, and whether he will expedite the acquisition of these lands and include the lands containing about 116 acres held in the name of Mr. J.R. Kelly in the townland of Spratstown, electoral division of Ballitore, as indicated by him on the 10th December, 1930.

The Land Commission have been in negotiation for the purchase of certain untenanted lands on the Archbold estate for the relief of congestion, but the owner has not agreed to the proposals made by them, and a fresh proposal is about to be issued. If the owner does not accept this further offer, the Land Commission propose to fix and publish the price in accordance with Section 24 (1) of the Land Act, 1923. The question of the acquisition of Mr. J.R. Kelly's lands at Spratstown will be considered when the Land Commission are dealing in its turn with the tenanted land on the Archbold estate.
