Vol. 37 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Insurance Benefit (Kildare).

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware of the delay in paying unemployment insurance benefit to Patrick Kiernan, Fairview, Kildare (Serial No. 6,000, Kildare Office), who lodged a claim to benefit on the 28th October, 1930; and whether he will expedite a decision on the claim.

A claim made by Mr. Patrick Kiernan on the 28th October last was disallowed for six weeks, on the statutory ground that the claimant left his employment voluntarily without just cause. Mr. Kiernan appealed to the Court of Referees, which recommended that the claim be disallowed. Subsequently, however, the claim was again referred to the Court of Referees for reconsideration in the light of fresh facts supplied to the Department. The Court, on reconsideration of the case, recommended that the claim be allowed.

Payment has accordingly been authorised, and all the benefit for which Mr. Kiernan has qualified will be paid to him on Friday next.
