Vol. 37 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of the Stronge (Abbeyleix) Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he is aware that the lands of Mr. Stronge, situated near the town of Abbeyleix, Co. Leix, has been used by a number of workers and cottage holders in and adjacent to the town for grazing purposes, and whether the Commissioners would be prepared to consider an application for the purpose of acquiring these lands to be used as a cowpark by the most deserving landless people of the district.

The lands referred to by the Deputy appear to be the holdings of Richard Stronge, on the De Vesci estate which is being dealt with under the purchase provisions of the Land Acts, 1923-9. The matter of the acquisition of these holdings by the Land Commission for use as a cowpark by the landless people of the district has been noted for consideration when the circumstances of the estate come to be investigated.
