Vol. 39 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Construction of Co. Sligo Road.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he can state when the Land Commission propose to complete the construction of a road leading from Knockgore into the townland of Clooncunny, on the Graham Estate, Co. Sligo.

The construction of the road on the Graham Estate to which the Deputy refers has been opposed by the occupier of an adjoining holding, through whose lands the road would run as an extension of an existing right of way. The matter is under investigation with a view to a solution of this difficulty.

Might I ask the Parliamentary Secretary if the Land Commission engineer in the district recommended that land should be compulsorily acquired from the person who is objecting to the construction of the road; and, if so, will the Land Commission act on that recommendation?

There is no such recommendation, because the inspector could not make such a recommendation. Negotiations are proceeding at the moment on the basis of compensation.

If a satisfactory settlement is not arrived at with this person, will the Land Commission take steps to acquire the land for the purpose of constructing this road?

I could not answer that question at the moment.
