Vol. 39 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mental Hospital Ex-Official's Pension.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that Mr. P. Smith (deputy charge attendant), who had 17½ years' service in the Mental Hospital, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, resigned his post at the request of the Mental Hospital Committee; that his resignation followed an examination made by the Resident Medical Superintendent, who found him medically unfit to carry on his duties; whether the Minister has refused to sanction the addition of ten years to his services for pension purposes; and, if so, if he will state the reasons.

The facts are as stated by the Deputy. The addition of years for the purpose of calculating superannuation allowance is governed by Section 2 (3) of the Asylum Officers' Superannuation Act, 1909. The conditions set out in that section did not exist in this case.

Is the Minister aware that in the case of Mr. Madden ten years were added?

I would suggest to the Deputy that if he wishes information upon that case, he should put down a question with reference to it.
