Vol. 39 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Motor Traffic on Roads.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will take such steps pending the introduction of proposals for legislation as he may consider necessary to ensure that motor cars, buses and lorries will exercise more caution on approaching cross roads and dangerous turns, with the view of ensuring a greater degree of security to other methods of transport at those points.

There are no special steps which I could take to ensure that motor cars, buses and lorries will exercise more caution on approaching cross roads and dangerous turns. In proper cases the Gárda Síochána institute proceedings under Section 1 of the Motor Car Act, 1903, for the offence of driving a motor car on a public road recklessly or negligently or in a manner which is dangerous to the public. It is also open to any member of the public to initiate proceedings in cases which come to his notice.
