Vol. 39 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Damage by Shannon Floods.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that 2,500 acres of land belonging to 70 farmers in the Little Brosna area, Co. Tipperary, have been flooded by the Shannon; and, if so, whether he will send an inspector to the district to report as to the damage caused by the flooding, with a view to the payment of compensation to the people affected.

Flooding from the Shannon has always affected lands in the Little Brosna area. Some 400 acres in all are now subjected to special flooding due to the Shannon works and arrangements for the payment of compensation in respect of that area are in hands. I cannot admit any damage outside the area mentioned as due to the Shannon works.
