Vol. 39 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchase of Oats for Army.

asked the Minister for Defence whether his Department has purchased any foreign oats within the last twelve months; and, if so, whether quotations were sought for Irish oats; what were the comparative quotations for Irish and foreign; what quantity of foreign oats was purchased, and what was the country of origin.

No foreign oats was purchased by the Department of Defence within the last twelve months. The remaining parts of the Deputy's question do not therefore arise.

Would the Minister like to see a sample of foreign oats that was delivered to the Army?

No foreign oats was purchased by us. It does sometimes happen that foreign oats are delivered, but in these circumstances we have in our contract arranged to return them at the expense of the contractor.

Has that been done?

I am satisfied.
