Vol. 39 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Distress in Athy.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health to state what provision, if any, is being made through the medium of relief schemes or otherwise, to provide employment to relieve the distress in the Athy district, which has resulted from the crisis in the beet-growing industry.

If there is distress in the district referred to, representations should be made to the board of health.

Is the Minister aware that the weekly provision of relief for the month of May, 1931, is raised from £12 to £20, as compared with May, 1930, and that that is due to the unemployment of able-bodied men owing to the beet crisis?

That is a matter for the board of health.

It is a matter for the Department of Local Government.
