Vol. 39 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Construction of Donegal Roads.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether any decision has yet been reached in regard to completing the construction of the road from Mullaghaneary road to the upper road leading to Ballybofey (County Donegal).

The question of the completion of the construction of the road in the townlands of Mullaghaneary and Gortahork connecting the Mullaghaneary and Gortahork public roads is under consideration by the Land Commission and it is anticipated that a decision will be arrived at at an early date.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he is aware that the road at Annagry (County Donegal) which was partly constructed in the year 1922, out of White Cross Funds, is in a very bad state of repair, being at times submerged by the tides, and that great inconvenience is thereby caused to hundreds of residents in the area; and whether he will make arrangements to complete the construction of this road, and thereby give much-needed employment in the district.

The road in question appears to be situate on the estate of Peebles and Knox, which is being dealt with under the Land Acts, 1923-1931, but which has not yet been inspected. It is therefore at present not possible to state what improvement works may be undertaken on this estate, but the question of repairs to the Annagry road has been noted for consideration in due course.

Am I to understand from the Parliamentary Secretary that this place has not been inspected? I understood that two inspectors of the Land Commission inspected the road two years ago.

The road may have been inspected, but the estate has not been inspected.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary prepared to consider the giving of a grant for this work?

The road will be dealt with first.

There are a lot of people unemployed in that district, and no relief grants have been given in that area.
