Vol. 39 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Golden (Tipperary) Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state who is in possession of the Mantlehill Estate, Golden, Co. Tipperary, and by whom it is owned and why the Land Commission are not taking over this estate for division amongst the landless men and uneconomic holders of the district and if he will publish the report of the assessor appointed by the Judicial Commissioner who visited this estate.

The Deputy appears to refer to a holding of some 858 acres in the townlands of Mantlehill Great, Mantlehill Little, and Baurstookeen, situate on the estate of Vincent Scully, Co. Tipperary, and in the occupation of Mr. Thomas Patrick Kennedy. These lands were vested in the Land Commission on the Appointed Day under the Land Acts, 1923-9 and proceedings for their resumption were initiated but, having regard to the cost, it was decided not to proceed with the resumption of the entire holding. The question of resuming a portion of the holding is still under consideration and the matter is being dealt with as expeditiously as possible.
