Vol. 39 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Congestion.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state what steps are being taken by the Land Commission to relieve the serious congestion that exists in the townland of Islandmore, and other neighbouring townlands adjacent to the Valentine Blake and Sebastian Nolan Estates, The Neale, County Mayo.

The Estate referred to comprises a holding containing 285 acres situate in the townlands of Islandmore and Knocknapisha, partly in the occupation of Valentine J. Blake and partly in occupation of 18 sub-tenants. The Land Commission have decided to treat the sub-tenants as separate tenants, and have retained the balance of the holding in the occupation of V.J. Blake, comprising 154 acres, with a view to resumption in order to alleviate local congestion.
