Vol. 40 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Gaeltacht Housing Scheme in Raphoe.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries to state whether any consideration has been given to resolutions passed at a meeting of the clergy of the Raphoe Diocese, Co. Donegal, regarding the slow rate of progress of the Gaeltacht Housing Scheme in that county, and, if so, will the Minister state whether any steps have been taken to speed up the work in connection with this scheme in Donegal.

The staff of surveyors dealing with applications from County Donegal under the Housing (Gaeltacht) Act, 1929, had been strengthened in March of this year, and I am satisfied that the rate of progress in dealing with applications from that county since that date has been satisfactory.

Does the Minister seriously suggest that he is satisfied with the rate of progress?

Absolutely.

Then I must say that the Minister is easily satisfied.

Does the Deputy know anything at all about the rate of progress in Donegal?

I know very well, and the Minister himself knows very well, if only he will admit it, that the progress there is very slow, and if the Minister is at all serious about this matter he should make some effort to speed up the work.

I am quite aware of the speedy progress that is being made, but the Deputy is not.
