Vol. 40 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Demesne Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state the area and valuation of the demesne lands in Saorstát Eireann now held by (a) the Marquis of Sligo, (b) Lord Barrymore, and (c) the Earl of Bandon.

In the schedules of particulars lodged by the Marquis of Sligo in respect of his estate in Co. Mayo he was described as owner of Westport demesne and adjoining untenanted lands with an area of 1,570a. 2r. 3p. and a poor law valuation, including the mansion house, of £1,203 6s. Since then the Land Commission have acquired 522 acres of these lands.

As regards the Barrymore demesne in Co. Cork, this would appear to comprise 765a. 2r. 5p. of the lands of Foaty with a poor law valuation, including buildings, of £891.

The Earl of Bandon's demesne at Castlebernard in Co. Cork would appear to comprise an area of 527a. 1r. 3p. with a poor law valuation of £500 5s., including buildings.
