Vol. 40 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Finances of Agricultural Credit Corporation.

asked the Minister for Finance to state how many shares were purchased by the Government in the Agricultural Credit Corporation, and how many of these shares the Government still holds; and further, if the Minister will state whether he anticipates that the Government will be called upon to pay any contribution towards the interest to shareholders, certificate holders or script holders, which interest, together with the principal, is guaranteed by the State.

The total number of shares in the Agricultural Credit Corporation, Ltd., originally purchased by the Government was 587,587, and the total number now held is 584,237.

I have received no application from the Corporation for an advance for the payment of interest on either shares or mortage bonds and I am unable to anticipate whether or not such an application will be made.

How were the shares that the Government held disposed of? Were they sold through the Stock Exchange?

They were sold in the market.
