Vol. 40 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dáil Eireann Loan.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he can state what progress has been made with respect to the payment of the Dáil Loan (Internal) 1919-1920, in the former Parliamentary Constituency of South Sligo; and if he can state the total number and amount of claims outstanding, and what time will elapse before these claims are finally dealt with.

Considerable progress has been made in the repayment of sums subscribed to the Dáil Eireann (Internal) Loan, 1919-1920, in the former Parliamentary Constituency of South Sligo, but the compliation of precise figures would entail an amount of labour which, in my opinion, would not be justified. I may say, however, that approximately two-thirds of the subscriptions in this area have been repaid.

As to the last part of the question, the position is that correspondence is still proceeding regarding a number of lists which were submitted to my Department by collectors. There are also outstanding numerous applications from individuals whose names are not included in any list and who have not furnishted satisfactory evidence in support of their claims. The rate at which progress will be made in disposing of these lists and individual applications must necessarily depend to a large extent upon the parties concerned.
