Vol. 40 No. 22

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Slump in Milk Prices.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that suppliers to redundant creameries, transferred to existing creameries, find it impossible to pay share capital out of the proceeds of their milk supply owing to the slump in prices; and whether he is prepared to introduce proposals to relieve the farmers of this burden.

From the information at the Minister's disposal it appears that the collection of share capital has in most of the cases referred to been completed for this year. As repayments are proceeding normally, he presumes that the societies in question cannot have had serious difficulties in collecting share instalments. The need, therefore, for the action suggested in the concluding part of the question does not arise.

That information is very much at variance with information I got. There are certain aspects of this question which it would be impossible to raise by way of question and answer. I wonder would it be possible to facilitate my raising it on the Adjournment on some future date?
