Vol. 41 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bere Island Old-Age Pension Claim.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that James Hanley, Ardagh, Bere Island, Bantry, Co. Cork, was awarded an old age pension of 10/- about three years ago, having disclosed to the pension officer that he was employed for one day per week by the Bantry Bay Steamship Co.; that at a later stage at the instigation of the successor of the pension officer above mentioned, Hanley's pension was cut to 6/- because of the employment above referred to; that the pension of 6/- is now withheld on the plea that Hanley must repay the excess of pension alleged to have been received, and further that he has been refused unemployment benefit, and as the man is in a state of acute poverty if he will have special and early inquiry made into the case.

I am having enquiries made into the circumstances of this case, and I will communicate the result to the Deputy as soon as possible.
