Vol. 41 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Uneconomic Holdings in Kildare.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he is aware that there is considerable dissatisfaction amongst those tenants on the Verschoyle estate at Kilberry, Athy, Co. Kildare, who are occupiers of houses in the area known as the Peat Works, due to the scattered layout of their holdings and the unpurchased portion of the estate, and the consequent grave inconvenience; whether he is aware that the relationship between the Land Commission tenants and the Verschoyle estate owners is unsatisfactory and the subject of disputes, and whether he proposes to take any steps, by purchase or otherwise, to relieve the situation by making these holdings economic.

Inquiry is at present being made by the Land Commission into the local conditions in and around the Verschoyle estate at Kilberry in connection with the division of untenanted land and turbary acquired by the Land Commission, and I shall communicate with the Deputy as soon as I have more definite information regarding the holdings referred to.
