Vol. 43 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Division of Ruan (Co. Clare) Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he can state (a) whether the holding of Mrs. Andrew O'Brien, Estate of Hon. Horace Stafford O'Brien, at Ardcarney, Ruan, Co. Clare, was recently resumed by the Land Commission for the enlargement of uneconomic holdings in the vicinity; (b) the area and resumption price; (c) the names of the allotees together with area and valuation of former holdings and the area and valuation now added together with annuity in each case respectively; (d) the occupation and economic circumstances in each case; (e) the names of those who have previously got suitable holdings and disposed of them; (f) the amount of the capital loss in connection with the resumption and resale; and (g) whether the claims of Patrick Ryan, Ruan, valuation £3 5s., Martin Dillon, valuation £4 5s., and James Cassidy, valuation £4 10s., had been considered before the said lands were distributed, and, if so, with what results.

The holding of the late Andrew O'Brien to which the Deputy refers was a holding containing 163a. lr. 11p., subject to Land Purchase Annuity which was acquired by the Land Commission under Section 36, Land Act, 1923. The offer made by them and accepted by the owner was £764, which was recovered on resale.

I will communicate later with the Deputy as to the remainder of his question when I have completed my inquiries in the case.
