Vol. 43 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - The Gárda and Illegal Drilling.

asked the Minister for Justice if the Gárda have instructions to observe and report upon instances of drilling by individuals or organisations operating without the authority of the State; and if any reports about drilling have been received by him.

I have not issued any special instructions on the matter referred to by the Deputy. I have received reports about drilling.

Would the Minister state if these reports show that drilling is frequent in the countryside at the moment?

I am not prepared to disclose the contents of any police reports. It is fairly well known that drilling is occurring in many places throughout the country.

Has the Minister been prohibited from giving any information to this House by notice served on him by the Executive Council under the Official or Unofficial Secrets Act?

Is there any objection, may I ask the Minister, to the Government indicating whether it has got to be regarded as a model and healthy exercise or whether there is any objection to it?
