Vol. 43 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Relief of Distress in Castletownbere.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware of the acute poverty prevailing in the Eyeries and Kilcatherine districts, Castletownbere, Co. Cork, and if he will arrange for the visit and report of an Inspector of his Department in connection with the matter with a view to making a suitable grant to the district to relieve the position.

The Cork County Surveyor has submitted a scheme for the expenditure of £900 in the Castletown, Glengarriff and Adrigole areas but portion of the scheme was found to be outside the terms of the Relief Grant. The matter is being taken up with the County Surveyor with a view to sanction being given to a suitable scheme at the earliest possible moment.

It is also intended to send an Inspector to the West Cork district in connection with a general survey of conditions and requirements in the county as a whole.
