Vol. 43 No. 5

Written Answers. - River Robe Drainage.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will now state what steps, if any, are being taken by the Commissioners of Public Works to have the drainage of the River Robe carried out during the coming autumn.

The investigations referred to in the reply given to the Deputy on the 27th April last in connection with this scheme are still proceeding. It will be appreciated that these investigations which involve inter alia negotiations for the acquisition of property are necessarily tedious, but it is hoped that sufficient information will have been obtained at an early date to enable us to submit the financial aspect of the scheme to the Mayo County Council who will be called upon to make a substantial contribution in aid of the scheme.

It would be impossible to comply with the requirements of the Act in time to allow of actual drainage works being commenced next autumn but I may assure the Deputy that every effort will be made by the Commissioners of Public Works to expedite the scheme.
