Vol. 45 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Subsidy for Butter Exports.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether a subsidy similar to that now being given to the Dairy Disposals Company for marketing creamery butter under their control, will be granted to Irish firms engaged in the butter trade in respect of butter exported by them to the Continent.

I have given careful consideration to the question of the marketing of creamery butter on the Continent and have decided after consultation with the Dairy Produce Marketing Committee, that unrestricted exports of creamery butter to the Continent would not be in the best interests of the industry generally, and that such trade should be, for the present, confined to the Dairy Disposals Company.

This decision was conveyed on the 26th ultimo to all creameries and nonmanufacturing exporters, who were informed at the same time that subsidy would not be paid on creamery butter exported to the Continent by any exporter other than the Dairy Disposals Company.
