Vol. 45 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Uneconomic Holdings in Kildare.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether the Land Commission proposes to acquire the lands of Mr. L. Nolan, in the townland of Newtown, Kilcock, Co. Kildare, for distribution among uneconomic holders and landless men in the area.

The lands to which the Deputy refers are probably those of Newtown, Kilcock, formerly in the possession of Bina and Michael Carr. These lands were allotted to Bina and Michael Carr under the provisions of the Land Act of 1923 in exchange for lands surrendered in County Galway and they have been vested in the migrants who, it is understood, have recently sold them to Mr. L. Nolan. In the circumstances, the question of re-acquiring the lands has not been considered by the Land Commission.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether the Land Commission proposes to acquire the lands of Miss E.M. Nolan, in the townlands of Gragadder and Rosetown, Kilcock, Co. Kildare, for division among uneconomic holders and landless men in the area.

The holding of Miss Elizabeth M. Nolan containing 173a. Or. 7p. in the townland of Gragadder and 170a. Or. 9p. in the townland of Rosetown on the Aylmer Estate, Co. Kildare, was retained by the Land Commission on the appointed day under Section 28 (6) of the Land Act, 1923, and the question of proceeding for its resumption for the relief of congestion is under consideration.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether the Land Commission proposes to acquire the lands of Col. Nugent in the townland of Belguard, Rathcoffey, Co. Kildare, for distribution among uneconomic holders and landless men in the area.

The Land Commission have taken proceedings to acquire the lands of Belguard containing 156a. Or. 28p. on the Nugent Estate, Co. Kildare, and the purchase price has been fixed. The lands will be vested in the Land Commission on the appointed day and be divided in due course in accordance with the provisions of Section 31 of the Land Act, 1923.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether the Land Commission proposes to acquire the lands of Mr. R. Thorpe, in the townlands of Clonduff and Craiguepole, Balraheen, Co. Kildare, for division among uneconomic holders and landless men in the area.

The holding of Robt. F.W. Thorp, Mary E. Thorp, and Charles H. Thorp, containing 240a. 3r. 25p. in the townland of Graiguepottle and 74a. 3r. 0p. in the townland of Clonduff on the Aylmer Estate, Co. Kildare, was retained by the Land Commission on the appointed day under Section 28 (6) of the Land Act, 1923, and the question of proceeding for its resumption for the relief of congestion is under consideration.
