Vol. 45 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Scheme of Cheap Lime for Farmers.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he has had under consideration any proposals to assist farmers to purchase lime cheaply for their land and, if not, whether he will have formulated a scheme with this end in view and with particular reference to the needs of County Wexford in this respect.

At the moment there are no funds at my disposal for expenditure expressly on a scheme of general application for subsidising the distribution of lime for farmers. A number of the committees of agriculture have put forward proposals for expenditure of some of the funds at their disposal on a scheme for subsidising in their respective counties the distribution of lime for agricultural purposes. In some of these cases the proposals have already been sanctioned, and it is probable that sanction will also be given in the remaining cases. So far, the County Wexford Committee of Agriculture have not proposed a scheme of this nature for their county. Should they do so, the matter will be given favourable consideration.
