Vol. 49 No. 1

Written Answers. - Compensation to Shannon Fishermen.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if any decision has yet been reached regarding the fishermen disemployed at Killaloe in consequence of the operations of the Shannon Scheme, and whether it is proposed to give them compensation in respect of their loss of employment consequent on the operations of that scheme.

An Inter-departmental Committee was set up to investigate the position of the Shannon fisheries and the report submitted by the Committee is at present under examination by the Departments concerned. Certain recommendations have been made in that report regarding the disemployed at Killaloe in consequence of the operations of the Shannon Scheme. It is expected that the examination of the report will be completed at an early date. It is to be understood that legislation will be necessary to give effect to the recommendations of the Committee.
