Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Acts, 1922-1932.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state (1) the number of houses erected under the Housing Acts between the 1st April, 1922, and the 1st September, 1932, or in course of erection on the latter date, and (2) the number of houses (a) erected, (b) in course of erection, and (c) approved for erection under the Housing (Financial and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1932.

(1) The number of houses erected by private persons and public utility societies under the Housing Acts between the 1st April, 1922, and the 1st September, 1932, was 17,164, and the number erected by local authorities during the same period was 8,376, making a total of 25,540 houses.

(2) The following are the figures relating to private persons, public utility societies and local authorities under the Housing (Financial and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1932:—

* There is no exact information as to the number of houses actually in course of construction by private enterprise in rural areas where the time for completion extends to 1st April, 1935, but it may be assumed that the greater portion of the number approved of in urban areas are in progress, as these houses have to be completed by April next to qualify for a grant of £60, which will be reduced to £50 thereafter. The figures given include reconstruction.

Private Persons and Public Utility Societies:

Certificates of approval for the erection of 6,593 new houses and for 2,275 reconstructed houses, i.e., 8,868 in all have been issued since the passing of the Act. A further 1,431 applications for reconstruction grants are being investigated.
