Vol. 50 No. 3

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Lobster and Scallop Fisheries (West Cork).

Mr. Burke

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he has taken or proposes to take any steps to foster and encourage the lobster and scallop fisheries in West Cork, and if he will take steps to have a bounty granted on the export of lobsters and scallop from January next.

It has been decided to grant a bounty on scallops and certain other classes of shellfish as well as on fresh water eels exported to British markets. As lobster fishing has ceased for this year and will not be resumed until next May, the question of a bounty for lobster exports has been deferred for the present.

Details of the bounties granted and of the conditions of payment will be announced at an early date.
