Vol. 50 No. 3

School Meals (Gaeltacht) Bill, 1933—Money Resolution. - In Committee on Finance.

I move:—

Go bhfuil sé oiriúnach a udarú go n-íocfaí amach as airgead a sholáthróidh an tOireachtas costaisí ar bith fé n-a raghfar chun éifeachta do thabhairt d'Acht ar bith a rithfear sa tSiosón so chun socruithe do dhéanamh chun na ndeontas is féidir a dheonadh fé Acht na mBéilí Scoile (Gaeltacht), 1930, do mhéadú.

That it is expedient to authorise the payment out of moneys provided by the Oireachtas of any expenses incurred in carrying into effect any Act of the present Session to make provision for increasing the grants which may be made under the School Meals (Gaeltacht) Act, 1930.

Could the Minister state if any of that money will be spent in rural areas? Evidently it is to be spent in the Gaeltacht areas. Several cases in my own area in the past couple of weeks have been brought under my notice where the children of working men in the area could not be sent to school, because they could not be provided with any meals during school hours or before they went to school. I think if the Minister would allocate some of this money to rural areas where the children go to national schools and where some of them are very badly off, he would be doing a very charitable and meritorious act.

Question put and agreed to.
Resolution reported and agreed to.
