Vol. 50 No. 10

Ceistenna-Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Labourers' Cottages Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state whether his attention has been drawn to the proceedings of the Mayo Board of Health where allegations have been made as to the avoidable delay in proceeding with schemes for labourers' cottages and whether he will state what has been the cause of the delay if such has taken place.

The commissioners' scheme for the erection of 170 cottages was only received in this Department on 29th ultimo and the sites are being inspected by one of the Department's engineering inspectors. The commissioners' original proposals for the carrying out of the engineering work in relation to the scheme were unduly expensive, and after consultation with the Department on the 21st ultimo. the council have now put forward fresh proposals which will enable a considerable saving to be effected in the cost of these services. Approval has been given to the revised arrangements.
