Vol. 50 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Strike at Ennis.

(Clare) asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce (a) if and when his Department was notified of a strike on road work at Ennis on Thursday or Friday, the 8th or 9th February, 1934; and if any investigation has been made into the causes leading up to the strike; (b) if he will state what inquiries were made as to whether the non-union men employed by the Clare county surveyor were sent out by the exchange in their order as to means, etc.

Dr. Ryan

Formal notification of a strike on road work at Ennis was received by the local officer of the Department of Industry and Commerce at Ennis on the 9th instant. The Department has not made a special investigation as to the causes of the strike. As regards the last part of the question, I am satisfied that all applicants submitted by the Department's local officer at Ennis to the surveyor of the Clare County Council were selected in accordance with the Department's instructions.
