Vol. 52 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Alternative Electric Lighting Plant.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he has had under consideration the problem of providing alternative electric lighting plant for county and district hospitals as a standby in cases where the present lighting provided by the Electricity Supply Board system fails through any causes whatsoever with consequent interference with the work of the hospital; and, if so, whether any decision has been come to in the matter.

There has been no demand from the local authorities or the medical officers concerned for the provision of alternative electric lighting plant. I am not satisfied as to the necessity for the installation of such plant.

Arising out of the Parliamentary Secretary's reply, if he received an application from the county council or the board of health will he give it sympathetic consideration? He must be aware how very serious any interference with the lighting, especially where there is a hospital, would be. If an application were made, will he give it favourable consideration?

Any such representation will be carefully considered.
