Vol. 53 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Widows' and Orphans' Pensions.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he can fix a date for the introduction of the proposed Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Bill; if he will state what Department will be responsible for the administration of the scheme; and whether persons who qualify for pensions during the present financial year will receive payment from October 1st, 1934.

The proposed widows' and orphans' pensions scheme is at present being considered by the Executive Council and the Bill will be introduced as early as possible. The scheme will be administered by the Minister for Local Government and Public Health. The date from which pensions will commence to be paid will be fixed in the Bill, but it is not possible at present to state whether pensions will be paid from 1st October next.

Am I not correct in stating that the Minister for Finance, in his Budget statement, made provision for a sum of money to enable such pensions to be paid for the last part of the present financial year, and am I to take it that the Bill will contain such provision?

I have nothing to add to the reply.
