Vol. 53 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Food Prices in Dublin.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that the prices charged to consumers in the City of Dublin for milk, beef, mutton, fruit and vegetables are not fairly proportioned to nor in equitable conformity with the prices paid to the producers thereof; and if any complaints relative thereto have been made to the Controller of Prices.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. A complaint has recently been made to the Controller of Prices regarding the retail price of mutton and the matter is being investigated. Some time ago a complaint was made to the Controller regarding the prices being charged for potatoes, and I am informed that the Controller of Prices satisfied himself that the prices complained of were not unreasonable. No complaints have been received in respect of the other commodities mentioned in the question.
