asked the Minister for Defence whether the Dublin Corporation have made an application to him to receive a deputation in connection with the acquisition of one of the barracks to be used as a clearance depot for families daily being rendered homeless through being unable to pay high rents, and as a result of old houses being condemned and of flooded basements due to bursting sewers; whether he is aware that although the builders are working top speed, the Corporation cannot satisfy the demands made upon it, and if, for emergency cases, he will now state when the Corporation will receive his assistance by being granted the barracks.

The answer to the first part of the Question is in the affirmative. I have had discussion with representatives of the Corporation Housing Committee and informed them that I am unable to place at their disposal any barrack accommodation in Dublin in addition to the barracks, or portions of barracks, which have already been handed over for housing purposes.
