Vol. 54 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Import Licences for Razor Blades.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state if any licence or facilities have been granted in respect of the manufacture of blades for safety razors in the Saorstát; if so, what is the nature or scope of these; the names of those interest either as directors or managers in the companies or businesses manufacturing or trading in these articles, and if such facilities are being and will be restricted to citizens defined as such in the Citizenship Bill, 1934, or ranking as such under that Bill.

I do not think it would be in the public interest to publish any information relating to the business of an individual firm except in so far as such publication is provided for by law. As regards the last part of the question, every application for facilities is considered on its merits by my Department.

Will the Minister say if any licence has been granted in respect of razor blades?

I have answered that. I think it is not in the public interest that information concerning the business of any firm should be made public.

Surely the Minister can tell the House whether or not a licence has been granted for the manufacture of razor blades? Am I to take it that no licence has been issued?

I have not said that.

Will the Minister tell the House whether a licence has been issued in respect of the manufacture of blades for safety razors in the Saorstát?

If the Deputy wants to undertake the manufacture of razor blades in the Saorstát he can do so without a licence.

The Minister will not tell me whether a licence has been issued or not.
