Vol. 55 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Women's Clothing and Millinery Trade Board.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that the records of the Women's Clothing and Millinery Trade Board show that at January 1st, 1934, there were 2,135 separate firms covered by that Trade Board, and that during the year 1934 of these firms only 128 were inspected.

In reply to the Deputy's question addressed to me on the 28th February, I gave him full information in respect of the number of firms on the live register as engaged in the women's clothing and millinery trades, and in respect of the number of inspections of these trades during the year 1934. The list of 2,135 firms, to which he alludes as being recorded in the Office of Trade Boards, is a list not only of firms which are at present engaged in these trades, but includes many other firms which at one time or another, sometimes seasonally and for short periods, were engaged in this industry. Notices of the determinations of the Board are sent to this more extensive list of firms so that they may be kept fully informed in case they may at any time be affected by these determinations. I have already informed the Deputy that the total number of premises visited in respect of the Women's Clothing and Millinery Trade Board in the year 1934 was 258.
